What is Rapé Tsunu?

The Tsunu is an old, traditional rapé blend containing Mapacho, Chiric sanango (Brunfelsia grandiflora), Ajos sacha (Mansoa alliacea), ash from cacao tree bark and tobacco seeds, Sansara, and vilca (Anadenanthera colubrina).

Chiric Sanango is an Amazonian shrub with recognizable purple and white flowers. This Master Plant is revered for both its medicinal and spiritual qualities. In Ecuador, Shuar shamans add the plant’s root into batches of ayahuasca for added psychedelic potency during special initiations. In Peruvian shamanic traditions, Chiric Sanango is believed to be the male peer of Ayahuasca and is often referred to as grandfather, him, or father.

Medicinally, it’s used to treat the flu and colds, venereal diseases, chronic pain, arthritis, and rheumatism. Acute effects of its ingestion include tingling throughout the body, chills, numbness of lips and fingertips, weakness, and loss of balance. It’s used to treat inflammation, arthritis, rheumatism, common colds, cleanse the stomach/body of parasites and fungus, and even as a cure for epilepsy. It also has a potent aroma, reminiscent of ordinary garlic.

Cacao is a well-known ceremonial plant used to open up the heart and create a euphoric sensation of oneness and appreciation of beauty. Cacao contains the alkaloid theobromine, which stimulates the heart stimulant, dilates the blood vessels, and reduces blood pressure, similar to caffeine, but without its uncomfortable “jitter” effect.
Sansara is an intensely aromatic Amazonian plant said to have numerous emotional and spiritual properties – it is used to awaken the feelings of beauty and love, open the mind and heart, bring happiness, prosperity, luck, and freedom, and to aid in attracting good things in life, including love connections.

Vilca is an ancestral Amazonian snuff. The seeds of this deciduous, leguminous tree contain the potent psychoactive compound bufotenin, as well as small amounts of DMT and 5-MeO-DMT. They are crushed into powder and insufflated on their own in many indigenous communities for their hallucinogenic effect.
