About Passionflower Extract:
Passionflower, or Passiflora incarnata, is a climbing vine with beautiful purple-white flowers.
This plant has a long history of traditional use in indigenous medicine — native peoples of the Americas would use it as a sedative, and when the conquistadors learned of it, they brought it to Europe, where it became widely cultivated and got introduced into folk medicine.
Effects:
Nowadays, passionflower is mostly used for alleviating anxiety, especially before surgery. Some also use it for managing insomnia, stress, pain, and other conditions, and it’s also promoted as a dietary supplement for heart rhythm problems, menopausal symptoms, and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. Its salve is also applied to the skin to treat burns and hemorrhoids.
While there is not much scientific evidence to support these uses, there are plenty of anecdotal reports on passionflower’s effectiveness.
Usage of the Passionflower Extract:
A typical daily dose of the extract is 250-900mg. Up to 800 mg daily has been used in studies for up to 8 weeks safely. More than 3.5g over a 2-day period is considered potentially unsafe.
The extract can be dissolved into a tea or added to a joint with other herbs and smoked; most notably, due to its MAOI alkaloid content, it’s a common ingredient in changa blends with DMT.
Quantity:
The package contains 5g of passionflower extract.
Warning:
Passionflower use may cause drowsiness, confusion, and dizziness in some people.
Passionflower should not be used during pregnancy as it may induce uterine contractions. It may not be safe to use passionflower while breastfeeding.
